The Canobolas Conservation Alliance (CCA) is a group of Orange residents who have come together to oppose the establishment of a mountain biking competition centre in the Mt Canobolas State Conservation Area (SCA). The CCA includes members of the Orange Field Naturalist and Conservation Society, the Environmentally Concerned Citizens of Orange (ECCO), the Central West Environment Council and the Central West Bushwalking Club. The CCA believes the proposal by Orange City Council to turn the SCA into a mountain biking park is completely inappropriate in the most important nature conservation reserve in the region.

Save Mt Canobolas

A draft plan of management for Mt Canobolas State Conservation Area could open the way for over 60 km of new mountain bike trails, plus infrastructure. This should be opposed for three reasons:

  1. The park is too small for such a huge development;
  2. Environmental impacts on unique and fragile ecosystem would be too severe
  3. There are perfectly adequate alternative sites.
