Thank you to everyone who made a submission in 2018 to Help Save Mount Canobolas SCA from the threat of over 60 km of EXCLUSIVE mountain biking ONLY trails within our fragile reserve. Over 340 submissions were made through this website making the government aware of the huge concern surrounding this unacceptable proposal. Many others were submitted through the government portal.
Thanks also to those who made additional submissions in August this year when Minister Kean’s approval of the new Plan of Management (PoM) for the SCA was imminent.
To the shame of the government, our efforts were to no avail, the new PoM allows Orange City Council’s proposal to be evaluated and potentially approved, subject to the Council preparing a Review of Environmental Factors that must be submitted with their Development Application to the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
So the fight is not over. The next chance for public input into the decision will be when the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) is placed on public display for comment. At that time the Canobolas Conservation Alliance (CCA) and its supporters will urgently need to reinforce our opposition to this unsustainable proposal with solid factual information about the natural and cultural values of the SCA.
In the meantime we need to maintain public awareness of the issue through;
- letters to the editor of the Central Western Daily,
- press releases, and
- social media.
We also need to maintain pressure on the decision makers with
- letters to Orange City Councillors and the Mayor, Reg Kidd, as well as
- the Minister for Energy and Environment, Matt Kean.
The CCA will keep you informed through this website and directly by email of when the REF is released, if you complete the following form.
